The California ADU laws are very favorable to homeowners provided that their ADU is not too large, I recommend building a “Statewide Exemption ADU” of less than 750 sq.ft. with four-foot setbacks. In almost all cases, local jurisdictions must allow this type of ADU to be built.

GARAGE CONVERSIONS


Free consultation services for homeowners interested in garage conversion. It may be necessary to have a structural engineer evaluate the condition of the garage.

Converting an attached garage is a good way to create an ADU.

A small one-car garage can only be converted into a studio. A smaller two-car garage (20 feet by 20 feet) provides only 400 sq. ft. of space.
